Poor Farm Fest 2011

The 2011 Poor Farm Fest was a huge success, filling Trout Valley to Fort Donnelly with the sounds of guitars until the wee hours of the mornings of Saturday and Sunday…. even from their tents and campers the stage sound system put out such volume that all of the 500 acres of Poor Farm was “stage front”!

The first band was QiEt from Huntington… and they entertained and amazed the audience with a burning effigy of themselves to ward off the rain clouds! It didn’t work, but the nubile firedancer was delightful!

From first to last, all of the bands pulled out all the ‘stops’ with trombones, trumpets, guitars, fiddles, mandolins, cello and bass….the amazing piano fingers of Randy Gilkey… and a rolling drum-set pedestal that brought out the view as well as sound of some incredible drummers!

As we plan Poor Farm Fest II the band lineup is clear…many return performers will have to be there… plus twice the number of bands, double the number of festival days, a huge fire pit, tented audience areas and MORE OF EVERYTHING!

“The Best Inaugural Festival I’ve ever been to” was heard over and over again from the performers! Since we must be on the right track….. The Poor Farm Fest II will take it to the next level!! With The Wild Rumpus, Blistered Nifkin, and many of the inaugural bands…. We plan to rock the mountains on September 6-7-8-9, 2012!! Be there!

The GreenBrier County Poor Farm

Established in the 1800’s, the Greenbrier County Poor Farm was used for over 100 years to house and support the citizens of the county that were unable to make ends meet. Celebrating our history is one way that Poor Farm Fest contributes to historic preservation. Another way is through donating to local historic sites, to promote and preserve our past.

This beautiful farm, with its rolling fields and panoramic views of the mountains, the windmills on Cold Knob, and sunsets will provide a fabulous music venue!
